Answering the Challenge
  • To ensure maximum accuracy and efficiency in CT/GC testing with NAATs, laboratory personnel should consider two elements: the sample (e.g. swab, urine, etc), and the assay (e.g. Gen-Probe’s APTIMA COMBO 2®, Roche’s COBAS AMPLICOR™, Becton-Dickinson’s ProbeTec™) that will be employed.
  • While understanding the benefits and limitations of the sample types and the different assays is important, the technician has little influence on the sample types coming into the laboratory. However, knowing the key differentiating factors between samples types and handling them adequately are of great importance and can make a difference when it comes to ensuring accurate testing.
  • This program is designed to help laboratory personnel become better acquainted with the different types of samples available for CT/GC NAATs, and to prepare for the various alternative sample types that are gaining popularity. The availability of alternate sample types will likely increase the overall CT/GC testing volume in the clinical laboratory.
